The kitchen is an area exposed to higher moisture. Despite that putty can be applied there. In areas such as the kitchen and the bathroom it is necessary to apply lime putty, which due to lime alkaline properties, feature resistance to biological corrosion and deposits of microorganisms - bacteria and mould. Lime putties ensure also vapour permeability, i.e. possibility to get rid of excess of moisture. ACRYL-PUTZ RV13 RENOVA lime putty is a recommended product to be applied in the aforementioned areas.
It can be applied on fresh lime and cement plasters after 3-4 weeks and 2-3 weeks in the case of gypsum ones. The plaster prior to putty application ought to be almost perfectly dry. It’s worth bearing in mind that conditions prevailing at a particular construction site affect the drying period of the plasters.
In order to prepare the substrate prior to plaster application, it’s necessary to strengthen them by applying Deep Penetrating Polymer Primer ACRYL-PUTZ® or Universal Polymer Primer ACRYL-PUTZ. The selection of an agent depends on the substrate absorption degree. Additionally, if it’s necessary to provide better adhesion of the substrate we need to apply Contact Polymer Primer ACRYL PUTZ, which strengthens the substrate and forms a rough layer.
The intended amount of the powder compound must be put in a container with water - ratio approx. 1kg of the product per 0.4l of water. The content of the container must be mixed carefully by slow-speed agitator till obtaining a uniform, easy-to-apply and clump-free compound. After approximately 5 minutes mix the compound again. Every time, prior to commencing work with powder putty, it is necessary to familiarize with the label provided on the container or Technical Data Sheet.
All the information concerning mixing can be found on the label or Technical Data Sheet. Some ready-to-use putties do not require mixing, other ones must be mixed prior to use by taking advantage of a slow-speed agitator so as to prevent air from getting into it.
The putty efficiency depends on the thickness of applied layer and is the following: 1kg/1m2 per 1mm coating. The efficiency data regarding a particular product can be found on the container or Technical Data Sheet.
In the case of “wet to wet” application, the subsequent coating can be applied as soon as the previous one of 2-3mm thickness has dried in 75%. If we want to apply the subsequent coating on the dry one then the drying time is approx. 4 hours. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that the period is subject to conditions prevailing in a particular area.
Putties are applied onto walls manually or mechanically. In the case of manual application putty must be applied onto a wall by stainless steel finishing trowel by pressing it so the compound adheres precisely to its surface.
Application temperatures are provided in the Technical Data Sheet for each product. However, in most cases the temperatures cannot be less than +5 and more than +30 degrees Celsius.
The drying period is subject to its thickness, putty properties and conditions prevailing in the application area. On average the period for one coating is approx. 1 hour.
The dry coating should not be wet. We can test it by touching its surface with our palm. Also, the dry coating features a uniform texture, without wet spots. In addition, the dry coating features a relevant toughness.
Use sandpaper or abrasive mesh.
Sandpaper or abrasive mesh should have the following grit size: 100-150
Priming agents should be used on:
Yes it is, as gypsum and cardboard are highly absorptive materials. Cardboard gypsum panels can absorb water from the putty which may result in incorrect curing and consequently contribute to crumbling and cracking.
